When Talk Therapy and Medication Haven’t Been Enough
BNI Clinics offers EMDR and TMS services, two evidence-based approaches for trauma, depression, and PTSD that work where other treatments often fall short.

TMS & EMDR May Be Right for You If:
Healing Your Brain and Nervous System
BNI Clinics offers two specialized treatments for people who haven’t found lasting relief through traditional therapy or antidepressants:
Used together or independently, both approaches address depression and trauma at a neurological level, not just a behavioral one.
How Both Treatment Options Work
TMS: Restoring Brain Activity Without Medication
Depression is associated with reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain involved in mood, motivation, and decision-making. TMS delivers targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate that activity, promoting new neural connections and relieving symptoms.
FDA-approved to treat:
- Major depressive disorder
- Treatment-resistant depression
- OCD
- Migraines
Also used for: PTSD, bipolar depression, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders
EMDR: Helping the Brain Process What It Couldn’t at the Time
Traumatic experiences can get stuck in the brain in a way that keeps them feeling present, even when they happened years ago. EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation, typically eye movements, to help the brain reprocess those memories so they no longer trigger the same intense emotional and physical response.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to describe your trauma in detail. The goal is not to relive it, but to help your nervous system finally move through it.
EMDR is effective for:
- PTSD and complex trauma
- Childhood trauma and adverse experiences
- Grief and loss
- Anxiety rooted in past events
- Phobias and panic
Sessions are conducted by licensed therapists trained specifically in EMDR. Your therapist sets the pace based on what feels manageable for you.
Why BNI Clinics
Trauma and depression are closely linked. Unresolved trauma is one of the most common drivers of treatment-resistant depression, and depression can make it harder to engage with trauma-focused therapy. Addressing both at the same time, with the right tools, tends to produce more lasting results than treating either in isolation.
At BNI Clinics, TMS and EMDR are part of a broader psychiatric care plan. Your psychiatrist and therapist communicate directly, and your treatment evolves as you do.

FAQ
1. Is TMS safe?
Yes. TMS is FDA-approved and non-invasive. It does not require anesthesia, medication, or surgery. Sessions take place in our clinic and most people return to their normal activities immediately afterward. The most common side effect is mild scalp discomfort or a headache during or after treatment, which typically resolves quickly.
2. Does insurance cover TMS?
TMS is FDA-approved for major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression, and many insurance plans do cover it. BNI Clinics will verify your benefits before your first session so you understand your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs upfront.
3. Is EMDR only for PTSD?
No. While EMDR is best known as a treatment for PTSD, it is also effective for anxiety, grief, phobias, panic disorders, childhood trauma, and depression rooted in past experiences. Your therapist will determine whether EMDR is appropriate for your specific situation.
4. Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail during EMDR?
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about EMDR. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to describe your trauma in detail. The process focuses on helping your nervous system reprocess the memory, not reliving it.
5. Can TMS and EMDR be done at the same time?
Yes. At BNI Clinics, TMS and EMDR can be integrated into the same treatment plan when clinically appropriate. Because trauma and depression are closely linked, addressing both simultaneously often produces more lasting results than treating either in isolation.
6. Is TMS or EMDR available for teens?
Yes. BNI Clinics offers both TMS and EMDR for adolescents as well as adults. Treatment protocols are tailored to the developmental needs of younger patients and are supervised by our board-certified psychiatrists.
7. How do I know if TMS or EMDR is right for me?
The best way to find out is through a psychiatric evaluation at BNI Clinics. Our team will review your history, prior treatments, and current symptoms to determine which approach, or combination of approaches, is most appropriate for your situation. Call us to schedule a consultation.
